Honor Magic 4 Ultimate Smartphone Review – Honor Magic 4 was officially announced in March 2022 in China as a flagship alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S series and iPhone which are quite popular there. The company hasn’t revealed any global plans as of yet, but it should be announced in Europe pretty soon considering its other sibling in the Magic 4 series is already on sale.

It has a flagship chipset and a flagship dual 5G sim support. In terms of looks, the phone doesn’t look much different from the other phones in the Magic 4 series but compared to other flagships, it looks quite unique. Good thing is that the Magic 4 Ultimate supports the latest specs and google play service. With that said, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate smartphone.

Honor Magic 4 Ultimate Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Honor Magic 4 Ultimate features a 6.81 inches LTPO AMOLED display screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
  2. The smartphone is powered by the latest flagship 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and Adreno 730 GPU.
  3. This smartphone is pre-loaded with the latest Android 12 OS and Magic UI 6 user interface.
  4. It features a new triple camera system featuring a 50MP main camera and a 12MP selfie camera.
  5. It has a 4600mAh Li-Po and it supports 100W fast charging along with 50W fast wireless charging.

Design and Display

The design of the smartphone is quite unique compared to other flagship smartphones. The unique part comes in the form of a circular camera module, which gives this phone a distinct look. The phone is curved from the front as well as the back. The back is made out of scratch-resistant ceramic, which gives this phone a premium feel when hold in your hand. The display is a curved 6.81 inches LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1 billion colors, and HDR10+ resolution. It is an extremely fine display, not just because of the higher resolution, but because of the fact that it is an LTPO AMOLED display.

It also features 1B colors and so you won’t see any color banding issues when viewing content on the display. There’s also a pill-shaped cut-out that houses the dual-camera system in the display. Not everyone will be okay will such a large cut-out, but at least you get an added functionality with it. Apart from that, the phone also features IP68 dust and water resistance. As for colors, the phone has 2 colors only, and that’s Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.

Memory and Internal

The Honor Magic 4 Ultimate features the newest latest 4nm Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. This processor is clocked at its full 1x 3GHz clock speed. This processor features a tri-cluster architecture, with the new Cortex-X2 cores clocked at 3GHz, followed by three Cortex-A710 clocked at 2.4GHz and four power-efficient Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.70GHz.

Games like BGMI and COD mobile runs flawlessly with this chipset, thanks to the all-new Adreno 730 GPU integrated with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The chipset is extremely powerful and capable of providing you with one of the best possible user experiences and gaming performance in the world. The phone is running on the latest Android 12 OS out of the box with the company’s new Magic UI 6 user interface. The phone comes in only one variant and with that, you get 12GB RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Camera

The camera is where the Magic 4 Ultimate excels. It features a Penta-camera system on the back. It features a total of five cameras that are dual 50MP, dual 64MP cameras, and a TOF 3D camera. The two 50MP wide sensors, 64MP ultrawide, a 64MP periscopic telephoto sensor for 3.5x optical zoom, and a TOF 3D depth lens support. Now you might be wondering why there are two 50MP wide sensors, but it’s for good reason. Both the camera sensors have different pixel sizes and different focusing technology. One uses the PDAF while the other uses laser auto-focus. This allows for much better picture quality and the result speaks for themselves.

The pictures coming out of the sensors are extremely well detailed and the colors look very natural, on point and true to life. The dynamic range is a whole better and there’s more depth to the images compared to other flagship smartphones. The images from the ultra-wide camera are also well detailed and have perfect color science with a wider 126-degree field of view. There’s a good amount of detail in the highlights and the shadows. The 3.5x periscope telephoto lens is equally impressive. The shots from the zoom lens are perfectly clear with no noise unless you zoom a lot.

The 12MP selfie camera is also optimized to take very decent selfies with a good amount of detail. The night images are also impressive and the smartphone captures great images, but unfortunately, we believe the night shots coming out of the Galaxy S22 Ultra are slightly ahead. Also, apart from the periscopic zoom sensor, no other lens have OIS support. For recordings, the device can shoot 4K videos at 60fps from the rear and 4K videos at 30fps from the front camera.

Battery and Others

The Honor Magic 4 Ultimate comes with Li-Po 4600 mAh battery which can give you a full day battery for a normal user. The battery supports a 100W fast wired charger or a 50W fast wireless charger. The wireless will be slower than the wired one, but it provides a hassle-free experience as you don’t have to bother with cables. This phone also supports 5W reverse charging as well as reverse wireless charging support.

The fingerprint sensor is an under-display ultrasonic sensor, which is fast, accurate, responsive, and most importantly keeps the phone secure. The device also comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, ultra-wideband, color spectrum, compass, and NFC, among other sensors. As for pricing, the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate starts at a price of $1250 (Rs 94,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The camera, processor, display, design, and battery performance are some of the main attractions of this phone. If you want a flagship smartphone with the best possible camera system looks no further. If you ask us, the Magic 4 Ultimate’s camera is not only excellent in terms of actual hardware, but its image processing capabilities are also equally impressive. This is one of the best camera smartphones and fulfills photography needs.

The price is a bit on the higher side, but considering the performance of the camera and the flagship value that you get, we believe the price is justified. If we have to pick an alternative instead of this, then we would recommend the Sony Xperia 1 IV smartphone which is petty close in terms of camera and performance.
