How to use Facebook Messenger Rooms: Everyone is using some kind of video calling apps or platforms in order to continue their work amid this lockdown due to Coronavirus. There are some popular video conferencing apps such as Zoom, Google Hangouts Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc. which people are using these days. But Zoom is already facing privacy and security issues while Hangouts Meet and Microsoft Teams are difficult to set up.

Facebook is all set to release a new feature called “Messenger Rooms” in order to compete with other similar services. As per Mark Zuckerberg, this feature will be first rolling out in some countries and gradually expand to others. Now, everyone can have an alternative to Zoom which has got several privacy concerns.

Messenger Rooms will allow up to 50 participants in a video chat at a time. And the good news is that there is no time limit and it is free. Anyone can use this feature even if they don’t have a Facebook account.

Facebook is very strict in terms of security and privacy of Messenger Rooms. Here we can control who can enter the room and there is an option to lock the room so that no outsider can enter after the meeting has started. The host can share a link so that others can join the meeting too. There is also an option for sharing screens but limited to desktop only.

How to use Messenger Rooms

  • Launch the Messenger app.
  • Click on the People tab present at the bottom of the screen.
  • Press on Create a Room option.
  • Select the participants to be invited to the meeting.
  • Now you can share a joining link to others so that they can join too.

This feature is available in Android, iOS as well as desktop. In order to get the feature, you first have to update the app on your phone.
