Doogee V20S

Doogee V20S Smartphone Review – It’s almost been three years since we have seen the first Doogee V20 series. Last year, the company released Doogee V20 Pro with some upgrades in the hardware and design. This year, the company came up with a new option known as the Doogee V20S. Like the previous generation, the company boasts its highly durable build and massive battery capacity.

Furthermore, they double down by bringing new hardware support, a sleek design layout, and an external notification display. Apart from this, the phone has a pretty decent build with unique camera abilities. Yet, the Dooge V20S got a limited release in the US, Europe, and UK markets. Now, the question remains, whether this phone would be a decent choice as a rugged smartphone. Let’s know more from the following review!

Doogee V20S Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The device arrives with a 6.43 inches AMOLED panel with a standard 500 nits brightness nits support.
  2. As for the software interface, you are getting the Android 13 skin with a wide array of functions.
  3. At the same time, the users can rely on the Mediatek Dimensity 6020 chipset with an adequate graphic unit.
  4. The camera setup introduces a 50MP triple camera setup with a dedicated night vision lens and a 20MP selfie lens.
  5. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by a 6000 mAh battery with 33W wired charging support.

Design and Display

Doogee V20 comes with a rugged build with two amazing paint jobs, including the standard Black and Orange. In both models, you will receive solid colors with a matte finish and a small display on the back panel. This AMOLED screen will show the time, day, date, and battery level. Alongside this, the device comes with a glass-protected camera setup. The side frame brings a biometric scanner on the power button and other utility buttons.

But there’s no denying that more battery capacity increases the phone’s weight, while the phone weighs around 269 grams. It’s considerably heavier than a regular Android phone. Regardless, you will find an IP68 and IP69K certification with Corning gorilla glass protection. Following this, the phone works hassle-freely in extreme conditions. It does work in almost every condition.

As for the front display, the Doogee V20S is equipped with a 6.43-inch AMOLED panel that grants a 60Hz refresh rate and 500 nits brightness with FHD resolution. Being a rugged phone, it’s expected that thick bezels around the corners can be bottom. Apart from the appearance perspective, the overall display experience is great since you can watch content without any hassle.

Memory and Internal

Under the hood, the Doogee V20S brings the Mediatek Dimensity 6020 chipset, which can handle normal tasks with no trouble. In terms of gaming, the phone does follow behind the competition. The reason for that would be low processing GPU and less appealing visual support. Although, you can play games like Genshin Impact on the V20s with smooth visual settings.

The overall performance factor isn’t concerning since it’s what you expect from a budget-tier phone. But still, having a 2×2.2GHz cloaking speed in the octa-core process is quite underwhelming. You can’t expect the phone to provide exceptional performance. Despite this, the phone can give a stable Android 13 user interface. The manufacturer does add their custom skin with a few bloatware here and there.

Some apps can be deleted from the home screen, while Doogee service apps will require manual disabling. Afterward, you will receive a slightly clean user interface. Yet, Doogee phones don’t have a good track record when it comes to providing Android updates. Therefore don’t expect software updates in the first place. Hopefully, you will obtain a 256GB UFS 2.2 storage with 12GB RAM configuration on this phone.

Camera

In the regular scenario, the Doogee V20S camera setup does provide presentable photos and video recording quality. At the heart, you will receive a 50 MP primary sensor that can capture beautiful photos. However, the main sensor does like optical image stabilization. Still, daylight photos can give appealing colors and contrast. Following this, it’s equipped with an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with ample view.

Lastly, the triple camera brings a 24MP night vision sensor, which can detect anything in the dark. It’s quite amazing for those users who want to take images in lowlights. Furthermore, the night mode camera does provide good enough photos. However, the overall camera results do look a bit AI-generated. The reason for that would be the color textures added by the beauty mode.

Still, the selfie comes out great with the 20MP selfie camera. On the front display, you won’t even notice the camera module since the dot-notch lens is barely visible. As far as the video recording is concerned, the users are getting up to 1440p video resolution with the standard fps support. The native camera does bring a good amount of filters, modes, and effects to charm the users. But still, the overall experience is mediocre according to the 2024 standards.

Battery and Others

The Doogee V20S does have a slightly bulky body thanks to the entry of the 6000 mAh battery configuration. Typically, this setup can render up to 8+ hours of screen time from daily activities. But what makes this phone more appealing would be the precise control over the screen time. Usually, a higher refresh rate drains the battery faster. Hopefully, the device got an average refresh rate.

Besides this, content streaming and gaming would work without any sweat. At the same time, you can refill the battery percentage through a 33W charger, which can refuel the phone in less than an hour and 30 minutes. But sadly, the manufactory didn’t add a 3.5 mm jack port, still, the audio output like highs and lows was quite accurate. As for the additional comms and sensors, support isn’t bad either. Lastly, let’s talk about the Doogee V20S price. It would start at $218 (Rs 18,299 in India) approx, which is a great spot in the mid-range phone market.

Conclusion

The add-on of the secondary display on the back panel does look appealing on the Doogee V20S. Besides this, the company does give a pretty standard phone. You aren’t getting anything exceptional in the hardware, software, or camera department. But still, the display can provide above-average resolution with mediocre brightness support. Aside from the additional corner protection, it’s just another mid-range phone.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a something better phone, you should also consider getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro. It will provide impressive perks at a high price from this phone. Apart from the design, you are getting decent hardware, a camera, and impeccable UI customization support. But, it may not have the military-grade protection like the Doogee phones. Ultimately, go through the pros and cons to make a final decision.
