dark mode for Docs Sheets and Slides

Dark Mode Theme on Android is now available for Docs, Sheets and Slides – Dark theme support is added by Google to the three tools, namely, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides on Android. This was said by Google in a blog spot and to make it easier on the eyes of the users, the dark mode or night theme is introduced on the Android device. At the same time, saving battery life is another reason, why this feature is introduced.

The new dark mode which has been rolled out by Google can take some time to reach the Android phone or tablet, users need to check the setting if they are not seeing it yet. Before showing up, it might take a few weeks.

When the dark theme is set to be used on Android phones or tablets, settings for Docs, Sheets, and Slides will be adjusted automatically. The dark mode can be turned ON or OFF, independently for all the three tools – Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Regardless of the Android system settings, the selected theme will be present in each app, by doing this.

Delivering dark mode to all of its first-party apps was promised by the tech giant, none other than Google, last year. The dark mode is added to a number of apps including the Google App, Gmail, and Google Calendar, but in iOS, some apps such as Google Maps do not have this dark mode feature.

Also, double-checking that users themselves have installed all pending app updates in the Play Store App is also a good idea.

How to turn ON Dark Mode Manually

Once the new feature is being accessed by the Users from their account, they’ll find a new Theme setting in each of the apps, Sheets, Docs, or Slides.

  1. Opening Sheets, Docs, or Slides followed by tapping on the Menu button in the top-left corner. It’s the three lines icon.
  2. From the list of options, users should tap Settings.
  3. Choose the Theme to be selected.
  4. Finally, the user has to select Dark, Light or System default

It should be set to System Default after the feature is added to the user’s device. This means that in the app, the dark mode follows the dark mode setting of the user’s phone or tablet. Independent of what the user’s Android is doing, if they want the apps to go dark or light, then the theme setting in each app should be adjusted by the user.

Light Mode document preview

The tech giant, Google has added a toggle. This toggle is added in case, a user wants to see in the traditional light mode, how a document looks.

The user needs to tap on the More button with three dots, followed by selecting View in light mode, when they view a file in Docs or Sheets. The preview theme will be quickly changed by the app, thereby, letting the user verify that everything looks as it should, without changing the apps setting.

It wasn’t mentioned by the tech giant if this feature will be added to the iOS version of the Google Apps or not. The dark mode has been added by plenty of Android apps and some of the best have been rounded up.
