Design and Display
The design of the Coolpad Cool 20 Pro is quite amazing, especially at this price. Almost every other smartphone in this price range has the same old curved edges with the same old design. The Coolpad Cool 20 Pro brings in a flat design with a new camera module design which makes this smartphone very modern looking, but unfortunately, it still retains the older notch for the selfie camera. Overall, the design is fantastic and gives this phone a certain edge over its competition. It is available in 4 colors, Gold, White, Blue, and Black. Among all these colors, the gold color has a very unique pattern.
As for the display, Coolpad Cool 20 Pro is powered by 6.58 inches large Full HD+ IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Now, that’s a big display and the colors are actually not bad, even though it’s an IPS panel. Obviously, it can’t compete against AMOLED, but you won’t get an AMOLED screen at this price anyway. It’s an IPS screen, but a good quality one, and it has a 120Hz refresh rate for a smoother experience, which will be enough to compensate for the lack of AMOLED.
Memory and Internal
Inside the Coolpad Cool 20 Pro smartphone runs the 6nm Mediatek Dimensity 900 5G chipset. The Dimensity 900 SoC is quite a decent chipset and can easily hang out with the likes of Snapdragon 778G and upper mid-range chipsets. The SoC can go up to a 2.4GHz clocking speed, so you won’t face any lags and frame drops while using the device. This is partially due to the fact that the processor is powerful and can handle anything without breaking a sweat. Some credits also go to the optimizations and Coolpad has done a fantastic job here.
As for gaming, BGMI and COD mobile runs perfectly with this chipset on normal graphics. The phone comes in 2 variants and you can either get it in 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. You also get a MicroSD card slot in case you happen to need more storage. For the operating system, you get Android 11 OS with CoolOS 2 UI on top of it and it is very smooth and properly optimized. The device also supports a dual 5G sim service.
Camera
The camera system on the back is a triple camera setup, but the main 50MP sensor is the only one that matters. The rest of the camera sensors are just 2MP macro and 8MP ultrawide sensors and they are just there to make up the numbers just like every other phone. The 50MP main camera takes decent pictures with a good amount of detail and the color science is on point. The dynamic range is quite decent even under harsh sunlight. Even the pictures of portrait mode are equally impressive and the edges around the human subject look quite natural.
Pictures taken during the night do suffer a bit. They are not bad, but there are other phones that can do better during the night. Also, the 8MP selfie camera is not properly optimized. It does take decent selfies but the detail levels could have been better. As for video recording, the phone manages to shoot up to 1080p at 30 fps from both the rear camera and the selfie camera.
Battery and Others
The Coolpad Cool 20 Pro smartphone has a Li-Po 4500 mAh battery capacity, and it should provide you with a full day backup on normal usage. This is partly due to the fact that the SoC here is very efficient and consumes very little power.
As for charging, you will get the 33W fast charger included in the box. Furthermore, the device is available at the price of $289 (Rs 20,999 in India) approx. The device also comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS, among others, and surprisingly, this phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
