But the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a ~458 ppi density compared to ~460 ppi density on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Both are protected by Ceramic Shield glass, but the iPhone 17 Pro Max uses the newer 2025 generation.

Performance (Chipset): The Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max is powered by the new Apple A19 Pro chipset built on 3nm technology, paired with 12GB of RAM and storage options of up to 1TB using NVMe storage. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro Max runs on the Apple A18 Pro, also based on a 3nm process, and comes with 8GB RAM and the same NVMe storage choices of up to 1TB. While both feature a Hexa-core CPU and a 6-core Apple GPU, the newer A19 Pro delivers improved efficiency and performance gains over its predecessor. For OS, the iPhone 17 Pro Max comes with iOS 26 out of the box, compared to iOS 18 of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Camera: For photography on the back, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 48MP wide main lens with dual-pixel PDAF and sensor-shift OIS, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max also carries a 48MP wide with the same features. The iPhone 17 Pro Max adds a 48MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom and advanced stabilization, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro Max uses a 12MP telephoto with 5x zoom. Both feature a 48MP ultrawide and a TOF 3D LiDAR sensor. On the front, the 17 Pro Max has a sharper 24MP camera compared to 12MP on the 16 Pro Max, both with OIS and SL 3D sensors. Video recording is the same up to 4K@120fps with Dolby Vision HDR, ProRes, and spatial video on the rear, and up to 4K@60fps with gyro-EIS on the front.

Battery: Apple has not disclosed the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro Max carries a 4685 mAh battery. Both phones support wired fast charging (50% in 30 minutes), 25W MagSafe wireless charging, 15W Qi2 wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wired charging.

Price: The iPhone 17 Pro Max has not yet been officially announced, but it is expected to launch at a higher price point compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at around $ 947.11 (Rs. 130,900 in India) for the base variant. Both phones are premium, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max may remain a more affordable choice.
