Apple iPhone 16e

Apple iPhone 16e Smartphone Review – A few days ago, Apple silently announced the iPhone 16e as a new member of the 16 series. It has been rumored that Apple has been delivering an SE model for a couple of years. But in reality, the company is actually planning to release the 16e instead. It’s an upgraded version of the iPhone SE 2022. Apart from the updated name, the performance, design, and other specs have also been improved. Alongside this, it’s the first phone to receive Apple’s own 5G modem.

It looks like it closes the chapter for iPhone SE models, and opens new doors for the e-lineup segment. The good thing is that the phone inherits the core features from the 16-series. The pre-orders are starting from 28 Feb, and it’s available on the global stage pretty soon. That said, there are lots of differences, similarities, and perks that you need to know before you purchase this device. So, let’s dive into the review.

Apple iPhone 16e Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The device equips a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate.
  2. As for the software interface, you will obtain iOS 18.3.1 with all the goodness of Apple Intellgence.
  3. Under the hood, the Apple A18 chipset powered the entire operating system with a 4-core Apple GPU.
  4. A decent 48MP primary sensor and 12MP selfie lens appear on the iPhone 16e.
  5. A dedicated function button is added on the side panel to access frequently used apps.
  6. The battery section is improved and expects to provide 24 hours of battery endurance.

Design and Display

At first glance, it might look like a previous generation iPhone SE phone. In reality, the Apple iPhone 16e carries the design layout from the previous model. But you will find a single camera island on the back and a massive camera notch on the front. Yet, the company didn’t add any extraordinary color options, except they provide standard white and black paint jobs. Both of them look appealing and interesting at first glance.

On the other hand, the glass back panel is something expected since most Apple phones have one. Besides this, the 6.1-inch front display has a ceramic shield glass. However, scratches will be noticed if you don’t put a protective glass year on the screen. Apart from this, the device comes with IP68 ingress, which does add up more value for the users. At the same time, the side panel houses a dedicated function.

Through this dedicated function button, you can perform a wide range of activities, access quick apps, and more. But the best part would be the Super Retina XDR OLED display. It provides impressive content consumption. Despite this, the screen only supports 60Hz refresh, which can be considered a major downside. Still, the brightness levels are precisely managed so that you won’t face any issues while streaming content outdoors.

Memory and Internal

From the hardware perspective, the iPhone 16e device has improved. Under the hood, you will find the Apple Bonice A18 chipset. It can give tough competition to top-level processors like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. Plus, the Hexa-core processors have already shown their performance with the other iPhone 16-series phones, and there’s no doubt that you will obtain a seamless performance on the iPhone 16e.

But, the graphic unit is slightly downgraded. Instead of providing a 5-core GPU, the company is providing a 4-core GPU. Considering the overall performance, you might notice hiccups in the gaming. You can enjoy your favorite games with higher visuals and graphic settings. As for 5G connectivity, the company added a new Apple C1 modem. Apple claims that this modem will provide better efficiency. As for the software layering, the handset runs on the latest iOS 18.3.1 update.

The plus point of this phone is that you are getting Apple intelligence out of the box, unlike the previous generation models. This device has cool AI features by default. With this, you don’t have to wait for updates like many people. Apart from this, you will obtain the standard iOS configuration with unique customization options here and there. Last but not least, the phone can be purchased in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB NVMe space with 8GB RAM support.

Camera

The camera department has always been a strong department for Apple iPhones. It doesn’t matter whether you are looking for heavily processed videos or natural-tone selfies. The native camera software will grant ample camera results depending on the lighting condition. Oddly enough, Apple introduces the 48MP primary sensor on the iPhone 16e. Surprisingly, it offers optical image stabilization.

The primary lens can capture photos up to 2X digital zoom without losing image details. The colors sometimes feel soft, and pictures look polished with artificial lighting. Regardless, the phone didn’t disappoint when it came to photography. The lowlight photos aren’t that inadequate. The 12MP selfie camera doesn’t lag and provides stunning pictures.

As far as video recording is concerned, the native camera app can effortlessly record videos up to 4K resolution. Besides this, the front and the back cameras give high-quality video footage so that you don’t need to do any after-editing. The video quality isn’t on par with other flagship phones. Still, the stereo sound support improves the video quality a bit. Let’s not forget that background noise cancellation is excellent for recording videos in a bustling market.

Battery and Others

Apple claims the iPhone 16e can stay active for up to 24 hours on a single charge. In general, you can squish out more than 6+ hours for your daily activities. It could be even less when you are playing triple-A mobile games. The device comes with a standard USB Type-C port that needs a regular wired charger to refill 50% battery in 30 minutes. Typically, your refilling time could vary, depending on the charger that you are using. Unfortunately, the charger is not available inside the box that needs to be bought separately.

With this handset, you will obtain the standard 7.5W wireless charging. It could have been better. Anyway, the company didn’t forget the Emergency Satellite message features on this phone. Aside from this, you are getting the necessary sensors and comms with above-average sound output. The starting variant will priced at approximately $599 (Rs 59,900 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Apple iPhone 16e has everything that the SE models lack. For example, a larger display, long-lasting battery life, a powerful processor, and the latest features. To a certain extent, the phone got to give close competition to last year’s iPhone 15. But it doesn’t mean that the phone didn’t have any flaws. For example, you won’t receive dynamic range photography. The device didn’t have a higher refresh rate, a big camera notch, no dynamic island, and so on.

Undoubtedly, this is the most basic phone that Apple released in 2025. But the price point is still quite high. If you can wait for a couple of months, you might notice some price drops. But if you want a phone right now, then consider getting the iPhone 15. It has overall better camera features with a slight downgrade in performance.

From the Android segment, you can check the Google Pixel 9. It delivers a stock Android ecosystem with stunning photography and video recording features. Every user looks for a different thing from a phone. It could be a camera, battery performance, design, or anything else. If you find this iPhone appealing, get this phone. If not, check other phones that meet your requirements.
